FAQ's
Answers You’re Looking For
Will Your Insurance Cover
Windshield Replacement or Repair
Will my insurance cover my broken auto glass?
If you have comprehensive coverage, you will only be
responsible for your deductible.
Will checking my deductible or inquiring about auto glass
claims raise my insurance rates?
Asking your insurance provider about your policy coverage
and deductibles is generally not considered a claim. To be certain, please
refer to your insurance policy.
Will filing an auto glass claim count towards my insurance
policy?
In many
cases, insurance companies will not count auto glass damage as a claim on your
policy. To be certain, please refer to your policy or contact your agent and/or
insurance provider to confirm your specific auto glass coverage.
What if I only have liability coverage?
Because
liability insurance only provides coverage for damages to another vehicle, auto
glass services are not covered under your liability policy. Vulcan offers
multiple payment options including cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and
American Express.
Will all insurance companies waive my deductible if my
windshield is repaired rather than replaced?
Many insurance companies cover windshield repair at
100% coverage with no deductible. We will be happy to help you with your
questions regarding insurance coverage.
Contact your agent and/or insurance provider or refer to
your insurance policy to confirm your specific coverage.
What if my deductible is the same or more than the auto
glass service?
You can pay for the work yourself. Vulcan offers multiple
payment options including cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American
Express.
Do I need to contact my agent or insurance company before I
contact Vulcan?
No, we can do that for you. We're experts at verifying
coverage, filing the claim, and handling all the paperwork.
Auto Glass Service
How soon can the auto glass job be completed?
Often, we can schedule your service for the very next day.
How long will my auto glass repair or replacement take?
In many
cases, windshield repairs can be performed in 30 minutes or less. Windshield
replacements will often take 60 minutes or less; however, we recommend that you
do not drive the vehicle for at least one hour after service is completed.
How long will it be before I can safely drive my vehicle?
You can
usually drive away one hour after a windshield replacement, or immediately
after a repair or side window replacement. Our technicians use the best
materials, including the industry's first adhesive with a one-hour drive-away
time for windshield installations. The technician will advise you if any
additional time is required.
Will you vacuum my vehicle after service?
Yes, our technicians will vacuum any pieces of broken auto
glass in your vehicle.
My rear-view mirror is attached to my windshield. Will the
technician attach it to the new windshield?
Yes, our auto glass technicians will remove your rear-view
mirror and attach it to your new windshield.
Will you replace the stickers on my windshield?
Yes, if
possible. We will remove inspection stickers and other items affixed to your
windshield and, if permitted by law, re-apply to the new windshield. Some
states do not allow the inspection sticker to be re-applied to the new
windshield and require that you purchase a new sticker within 3-5 days after a
windshield replacement. Check with your state licensing agency for additional
information on required inspections and stickers.
Will the Vulcan technician call me before they come?
Yes, in most cases the technician will call before they
arrive so you're expecting them.
What if the technician can t reach me while I m at work?
Your
technician will attempt to contact all phone numbers listed on your order. If
your technician cannot reach you after multiple attempts, your appointment will
need to be rescheduled.
Will the keys to my vehicle need to be available for a
mobile auto glass service?
Yes, the technician will need the keys to access your
vehicle to confirm that all parts and options are working properly.
Does my vehicle need to be in a covered or heated area for
auto glass service?
Inclement weather makes auto glass installations difficult
without cover. If possible, please have shelter available.
Will I have to wait with my vehicle during mobile service?
No, you don t need to wait with
your vehicle, but please have your car keys available for the technician.
Repairs
How do I know if my auto glass damage can be repaired?
If your windshield damage is smaller than six inches, we
may be able to repair it.
Does Vulcan repair long cracks in the windshield?
We will repair cracks that are smaller than six inches.
How does the auto glass repair process work?
Performing
a windshield repair involves cleaning and treating the damage with
specially designed tools and resins. In many cases, the damage can be repaired
in less than 30 minutes.
Can you guarantee that a chip or crack in my windshield
that can be repaired will not become larger during the repair process?
No. In
some cases, through no fault of the repair technician, the attempt to repair a
windshield can result in the chip or crack becoming larger. However, we can
guarantee that upon completion of a successful repair, the chip or crack will
not crack further and that the repair will pass any state vehicle inspection,
or we will credit the cost of the repair toward a replacement. In the very rare
event that this occurs, we will credit the cost of the repair either toward a
new windshield or, in the event of insurance work, back to the insurance
company.
Can you guarantee that the chip or crack will be invisible
after the windshield repair has been completed?
No. A
windshield chip or crack repair is used to prevent further damage to your glass
and to restore the structural integrity of the vehicle. While each incident of
damage is unique, with the most successful repairs, a slight blemish or
imperfection where the impact occurred is normal. In most cases, you should
expect the cosmetic appearance of the repair to show some improvement as
compared to the damage prior to the repair.
Recalibrations
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Safety Systems)
Is there
a camera connected to your windshield? The forward-facing camera is part of
your vehicle's advanced safety systems, sometimes called advanced driver
assistance safety systems (ADAS). These systems are designed to keep you and
your vehicle safe on the road.
Why do I need advanced safety systems recalibration?
When damage occurs and you need a windshield replacement,
nearly all vehicle manufacturers require that the camera connected to your
windshield be recalibrated.
For the
camera and the advanced safety systems to continue to work properly, Vulcan
Auto Glass can often complete the windshield replacement and safety system
recalibration in a single appointment.
More and
more vehicles have advanced safety systems, and nearly all of
those vehicle brands require a safety system recalibration after a windshield
replacement. Vulcan technicians are experienced with the recalibration process
and will help ensure your vehicle continues to keep you safe on the road.
Examples of ADAS
These
driver assistance systems protect drivers through a range of capabilities,
creating a circular safety net around the vehicle to help reduce the risk of
collisions. The forward-facing front cameras enable advanced safety features to
aid and warn drivers on the road.
The ADAS
camera systems are designed to work together to enhance vehicle safety by
alerting the driver to potential problems and avoiding collisions they can
aid, warn and assist. Some examples include automatic
emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane assist, lane departure
warning, pedestrian detection, collision avoidance, and more. If so equipped,
the camera s proper operation is a critical component of your vehicle's
advanced safety system.
Dynamic vs Static Recalibrations
Dynamic
Recalibration - Requires driving the vehicle at a set speed on
well-marked roads to recalibrate the camera system. Typically takes up to one
hour or more, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
Static
Recalibration - Requires a specific target image mounted on a
fixture in front of the vehicle during the recalibration process.
Typically takes up to one hour or more, depending on the make and model of the
vehicle.
We
understand how inconvenient it can be to come to our shop and wait hours for
your vehicle that's why Vulcan Auto Glass is proud to be the only glass company
to offer mobile recalibrations for both static and dynamic vehicles.
